New Delhi: Team India fast bowler Mohammed Shami said he had no idea what happened at the 2015 ODI World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. He said he had injured his knee in the mega tourney but still played seven matches despite enduring pain. Shami recalled his experiences with former pacer Irfan Pathan on Instagram on Wednesday. It is reported that Team India quit the semis in the 2015 World Cup. Umesh Yadav has taken 18 wickets for India’s highest number of wickets (8 matches) while Shami is second with 17 wickets (7 matches). Shami ranks fourth on the list overall.
“I injured my knee during that World Cup. I couldn’t walk after the match. The whole tournament was played with that injury. In the first match, I injured my knee. Doctors offer treatment every day. I wear three painkillers a day, ”Shami explained. Shami recalled that captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was very supportive at the time and inspired him even more in the semifinals. “Before the semifinal in Sydney, I told my teammates that it was not because of me and that I could not play anymore. Did You feel a lot of pain? If the team speaks of ownership, what is not worth it. Then Dhoni came and made me believe that I could play. “In the crucial semifinals, the management has decided not to go with the new bowler.”
Shami said he eventually bowled five overs in the semifinals and bowled out for 13. Dhoni then said he wanted to go. “My condition was worse than the injection. I told Dhoni that I could not bowl anymore. However, Dhoni said he believed in me. He said that part-time bowlers can run the ball. He told me not to give more than 60 runs. Never played in worse conditions. The bone was broken within 4 mm. Some said that my career was over. Something else that the World Cup should not be played. But luckily I am in front of you, ‘Shami said. India lost by 95 runs in the second semifinal against Australia at the Sydney Ground. This left Mega Tourney. The Aussies batted first and scored 328/7.
